In one of our class periods, we were asked to think if we wanted to stop doing these blogs and start doing video blogs, or vlogs. I would prefer not to for various reasons. I will tell you a few here, and an alternative to get the pros of the vlogs.
To me, the main reason that I don't think we should do it is because I don't really like recording myself like that. I am fine with the stand-ups because that is a recited line that is said from a distance from the camera for a few seconds. The vlogs would be a lot of my face, and I am not very comfortable with that, I don't even like to do short acting shots.
Another reason is because I don't really have something easy to take the video with. My family has a 70D, but that does not have an even decent microphone like a smartphone does. We have an iPad also, but it is only like the iPad 2 so it has a horrible camera. With not very good quality of the easy things of making a video, I like to post it on my blog even less. I think that some other people would have the same problem.
One alternative I have come up with is that every once and a while, instead of doing two blogs for the week, we would have a given topic like "The Forest" and with that topic we would make a short video 30 second of the forest out of pictures and videos we take that week, it could be interpreted any way, maybe you would go inside of a bush and make a short skit about being in a huge forest. That way, we would still have the filming and editing practice every once and a while, but we wouldn't have a face on it, unless we want to. The weeks for the video instead of a blog could be chosen at random or set weeks. This idea could be changed many ways and it would not really be any more open to trolls than the quarterly projects we already do.
Well, now you know what I think about replacing the blogs with vlogs. Well, see you later.
I am in 8th grade in my school's Advanced Media class. I love this class and I have been having lots of fun in it. This past year we went to San Diego, where STN was held, and the year before it was in Orlando. This year it was in Atlanta, Georgia.
