Dear Abby was a news paper column with advice for many things. In this blog, we were asked to write a "Dear Abby" for the new media students coming in next year. I probably won't get to meet many of them because I am going to move on to high school, but I a happy to provide them with advice for next year.
The first word of advice I have for the new students is to not forget the small things. You may or may not know this yet, but you will need to have your own SD card, but not just any, you need to have a class 10 SD card, to determine the class, look at the number in the circle. You don't just want one, it will help to have 2, but make sure you never forget it. Ever. I have had an experience where I forgot my SD card, but I had a drone and one of our Osmos, which both take micro SD card, so I ended up having to shoot my whole PSA with just those, no real camera on a tripod. Also, even though headphones are available around the classroom, you will want to always have your own, there is a limited amount. You should also bring them with you whenever you film, you need to make sure you have a pair, you never know when you are going to be looking for the headphones you thought you packed.
You are also going to want to get use to Final Cut Pro 10, Audacity, and Google Drive as soon as possible. All of your projects will become much easier and faster the more you know how to use Final Cut Pro 10 and Google Drive. It's not just knowing how to use it, but being able to use all of the shortcuts and techniques. Your projects will become much easier. It will help a lot if you know how to use Audacity early on, before you start your Inside Scoops, you could always ask your partner a little while before you start working on your Inside Scoops to start teaching you. Audacity can be a little complicated at first, as well as Final Cut Pro 10.
Finally, don't complain too much about having a ton of work. It will seem like a lot at the beginning, and it is, especially until you learn all of the basics. Don't worry, it will get a little easier by the end of the year. Don't go too hard on Mr. M giving you too much work, he is testing a new system for training the new students, so he might give you too much, maybe too little, just try your best to get what needs to be done by the time it needs to be done.
Try your best, if your best isn't enough, then it's simply not your best. You can always do better no matter how good you thought you did before, no matter how much you struggled to get there, you can do better. Good luck to all of you new students. Come back later for some more, bye!
I am in 8th grade in my school's Advanced Media class. I love this class and I have been having lots of fun in it. This past year we went to San Diego, where STN was held, and the year before it was in Orlando. This year it was in Atlanta, Georgia.
