As I have already told you, I am doing my 1st quarter news story on a 16 year-old professional body boarder, Tanner McDaniel. I think that I am only a little behind. I say this because first, I have finished the interviews and transcriptions. Second, I am only just starting on the script, and third, I might, but most likely will not, get another interview.
I was able to finish my interview and transcription, and everything up to the script. I was on time with all of that. That was kind of the easy part though.
I still have to make my script, but that is not due until Friday so I have plenty of time to get it done. That is the min reason I think that I am only slightly behind on my project. I will be able to finish it on time though, but I will have to kind of rush, while doing my inside scoops that are due on Thursday. They are the main reason I am a little behind on my script, because I have been working on three other scripts.
I also might be doing another interview. I don't think I will though. I think that I have enough, but it's always better to have too much than too little. It would be with Tanner's dad, but I am not too sure if I could get it. If I can't, it doesn't matter too much, but if I can then that would be great.
Overall, I am only slightly behind on my 1st quarter projects. I think I will finish in time. Well, come back soon for another blog post!
"So You've Grown Attached" is a short film about imaginary friends. It uses an unique idea of having an imaginary friend that is made to be different by different editing effects. They use nice shots and an interesting storyline to keep you entertained. It even takes an unexpected twist. I hope you like it. I will post it below for you. See you later, bye!
I was able to get my interview with Tanner McDaniel this weekend. I was not able to get any b-roll, but I will post one of his videos below. Tanner is my topic for this quarter. He is 16 and he is considered one of the best body boarders in the world. He said in his interview that some people think of him as a grom, meaning that he is one of the best young surfers or body boarders. He travels the world body boarding for various worldwide competitions. Here's a video for you, come back soon!
With the third week of school, we are bound to have faced at least one challenge. I will tell you three of my biggest challenges so far and why they are challenging. My biggest challenge is having to do all of the work the normally two people doing media by myself. Another challenge is fitting all my school work in with all of my media work. The final challenge is from my English class.
One of the things that I have to do by myself is my first quarter, and soon to include second quarter, projects. I have to do the entire projects by myself. I know I will be able to do it though because I have already done one by myself. I also have to research and write for the Inside Scoop by myself, and then have someone help me record them.
Another challenge is putting all of that work along with my school work. I have 7 other classes and some of them give homework every day. It would be nearly impossible to get it all done if there was not an A day and B day.
Among all of my classes, English will probably one of the more challenging. The reason for that is that our teacher wants us to complete our whole English book, which means 2 embedded assessments per quarter. With that, we have to have our final draft of our story due Friday, only giving us 4 weeks to get it done.
Challenges are always presented to us. Challenges make us who we are. Come back soon for another blog!
So, I was looking through the Vimeo Video High School videos, and I found one that might be very helpful for me. It was "How to Make a Surf Video". I thought this would be helpful for me because I am doing a story on a professional body boarder, which most likely has the same filming rules as surfing. It was good to get an idea of what I will need to do to get the best b-roll shots for my story. I will definitely use these techniques when filming my b-roll. I will post it below so you can take a look at it if you want. See you later, bye!
The first week of media has been an eventful one. First, I will tell you about my partner and what we are planning on doing. Second I will tell you my story idea and where I am on that. Finally I will tell you the little things that I have done in the first week.
I once had a partner, I say once because my partner had decided to quit. What we are planning on doing about this is to first find me a new partner, but they declined the offer of joining media. Now I have no partner to work with. I am fine with that because I think that I am best at news stories, and I have even done one by myself before, I have also probably in at least the top 5 in the class for doing the most news stories. I have done around 15-20 news stories, I think I can get this one done. The real problem is the Inside Scoop, those require two people. Now I will need to borrow another student from another group to help me with those.
For this quarter's news story, I am planning on doing it on Tanner McDaniel. He is a 16 year old boy who loves to bodyboard, much more than others his age. He loves it so much, he is a professional. Although, since I am by myself, I will either join with another group, making a group of 3, but then there is not enough work for everyone, so we might do 2 stories in one quarter. If I don't go with another group, I can either do my story myself or do a story for the Kauai Visitors Bureau where every school on the island takes a letter from the word Aloha and a video would be made from that, but there might not be enough schools on the island willing to do it.
Some of the smaller things that happened were that all the 8th graders had to work the morning announcements and teach the new students at the same time. Another is that we all got our partners. We also discussed our topics for the 1st quarter. We all also helped the new students make blog sites which I did but we did not finish it.
Overall, the first week of media has been packed full of events. Well, I would like to know what you all think what I should do for my first quarter. Check back soon for my next blog!
I am in 8th grade in my school's Advanced Media class. I love this class and I have been having lots of fun in it. This past year we went to San Diego, where STN was held, and the year before it was in Orlando. This year it was in Atlanta, Georgia.
