We have all made mistakes before. No one will not make any mistakes. Some mistakes are much worse than others. I will tell you about 3 of my biggest mistakes. My first is signing up in a blank space in sixth grade. Another one of my mistakes is not preparing enough for this year's Solo Ensemble Festival. The third mistake was not going on my Boy Scout Troop's last Kalalau backpacking trip.
My first mistake may seem a little confusing, but I will clear it up. One of our final projects for Social Studies in 6th grade was a most wanted poster for a famous explorer like Marco Polo and others. We were given the chance to sign up in groups on a piece of paper. None of my friends were really in that class so I decided to be the first one to sign up for a group, so there were 4 blank spaces under my name for people to sign up under me. Those 4 slots were taken by 4 kids who could not hold their weight in the project. I ended up doing almost all of the work, I planned what it would look like, I did the research, and I decided what to write on it. Since no one is perfect, I made some mistakes, mistakes that could have easily bee fixed by other group members helping out with it. The other part of the grade was a verbal presentation and it did not go so well. In the end my grade was impacted because of that project and it was not a great way for me to start off middle school. I don't really hold a grudge against them though, but that's mostly be cause I completely forget who the 4 were, there might have only been 3 others.
This past Solo Ensemble Festival for band was much harder then the year before, and partly because I didn't prepare enough. My first one was really easy. I had an easy Ensemble and my Solo was so easy that I didn't even play through it completely until about 4 or 5 nights before. This year I practiced much more and much better and I still did worse because it wasn't enough, I had a harder song and I didn't care quite enough to meet the harder song requirements so I ended up not qualifying for a medal.
The final mistake and the most recent mistake I have made was not going on my Boy Scout Troop's Kalalau backpacking trip. It ended up being a lot of fun for everyone else who went on it, but I just didn't want to go. I would keep telling myself that I didn't have the gear to do it or I wasn't capable of making it through, even though I did have some of the gear, others could have shared with me along the way, and I could have borrowed gear from other people who were not going on the trip. There were people younger than me going on it and they were fine, so I could ave made it through. I really regret not going on the trip and I don't know when the next one will be, it could be over a year away.
These are not all of my mistakes, and neither are they some of the worst, these are just some of my more recent mistakes that have had an impact on me more than choosing to eat cereal instead of eggs for breakfast. Well, come back later for some more, bye!
Disney is remaking another movie that will be coming out in July. It's The BFG (Big Friendly Giant) and when I saw the teaser for it I thought it was pretty good. This kind of introduced you to the main character a little and you learn some of the rules. You learn that she is curious and smart, a little different from the rest. She starts to break some of the rules and she tells you in a way why the rules are there, but she doesn't really care. You are able to figure out what happens if you know the story of The BFG, but if you don't you want to find out. It gives you the beginning of the movie, so you know that anything could happen and she even says that this is where the story begins, and then from there it can go anywhere. Well, I will post it below so you can check it out. Bye!
There is a new movie coming out in December and it is another Star Wars movie. This is not the regular Star Wars movie, it is taking place in-between Star Wars Episodes 3 and 4. It is the story of how the Rebels got the plans for the Death Star. They have released a teaser for it, and it is a pretty good one. It basically tells you about the main character a little and what her job is. This makes you get to know what it is about. You may think that it reveals everything already, but it reveals not that much. It doesn't reveal anything about how they get the plans. It has some unique shots and in the opening you hear a voice accusing someone of crimes like a judge would. Then after all the crimes are read, it shows the scene where they are talking. It then switches the feelings of the committing the crimes from a bad thing to a thin to be proud of. They have a couple of other cool techniques too. Well, I will post the teaser below. Hope you like it. Bye!
For this blog we were asked to tell about the last time we went out of our comfort zone. The last time I really stepped out of my comfort zone was on our trip when we learned a song from the Broadway show Matilda, but that wasn't really that big of a deal, I actually use to do dance stuff like that. The last time that I really stepped out of my comfort zone was at the Solo Ensemble Festival.
One reason I chose the Solo Ensemble Festival is because it was also the last time that I got really stressed. I don't really get stressed that often, but doing things solo that are as important as Solo Ensemble really get me nervous. It is out of my comfort zone bigtime. I don't like doing it at all. It's always kind of scary.
Another reason is because it's something I have only done once before. Also, this second time I had a much harder song to play and I tried my best to be prepared but I was not ready enough. Not being fully prepared and stepping out of your comfort zone makes it pretty hard to play correctly, and not playing very good for a judged song makes it even more uncomfortable.
Finally, dancing with some friends is different than playing a solo in front of a judge. I think that everyone steps out of their comfort zone when doing Solo Ensemble because most of the time you step out of your comfort zone you are either with your friends or with someone who would not judge you, but it's part of Solo Ensemble. You specifically get judged and critiqued by someone who has the title of judge, so it's a little more awkward when you know you are getting judged.
I don't step out of my comfort zone very often. Well, come back soon for some more, bye!
For my 4th quarter project this year, I am going to do a recap on the STN trip. I am going to tell what some of the students expected from the trip, how they felt during the trip, what they liked best about the trip, and how they think that it has benefited them. During the entire trip I took pictures and a few videos that I am going to be putting into the video, so I have done most of my filming. I just need to get my interviews done. I am planning to get the interviews and to be able to show what the trip was like by having a quick slideshow kind of part in it to show what we did during the trip. One of the cool things about this project is that I can make it any way I want, so it could be completely different then what I have described, it all will change based off of the way everyone answers the questions I give them and how it would flow the best. I am going to try to make this the best I can and I am going to try to capture what was felt and experienced on the trip into my video. Well, I will post my TIAS below so you can check it out a little more. Bye!
In this blog we were asked to tell you all about the top 3 things from our STN trip. All of the trip was pretty fun and I'm not too sure what would be my top 3 things.
The first probably would is the Museum of Natural History. I thought that they had some pretty cool things there. They had a huge meteorite of solid iron that weighed like 12 tons. They also had this huge space section that had exhibits down on the first floor, they had 4 floors, and taking up space in the top three floors was this huge sphere modeling the sun or a planet, but inside there was a planetarium. They also had a ton of exhibits of animals and old cultures like Native American, Hawaiian, Tahitian, and others.
My second favorite thing was the Six Flags Amusement Park. They had a ton of cool rides there and it was super fun. They had one ride that was an old rollercoaster made out of all wood, it was one of the first rollercoasters at the park. They also had some rollercoasters that went really fast down really huge drops. There was a Superman Rollercoaster where when you got into the seats your feet were dangling. Then your feet were lifted back so you would face the ground like you were flying like Superman.
My third favorite part of the trip was Central Park. The ice skating was really fun and the park part of it was fun too. It was cool to see even just the part of it we went to.
Well, it was hard, but I singled it down to my favorite 3 things of the trip. Well, come back soon for more. Bye!
With our first week back to school after our trip and I thought that I should write about our experience at our spot feature competition. We just thought that we should walk around a little and see what we could find after we got our topic "Life in the Fast Lane". We walked just across the street and we saw some stairs up to the Peach Tree Center and we thought that we should go in and look around. We eventually found a shop called Pansbury Pie Café. The manager was there and she was the first person we talked to. She seemed like she knew what was happening and that she had done it before so it made it much easier. We got a pretty good story from her and in the end it ended up getting second place. We were pretty confident that we would at least win something when we turned the final version into the basket. I'll post our video below if you would like to check it out. Well, bye!
With one last quarter, I plan to end it well. I am going to do my best to make it my best quarter ever. My first goal is to get my 4th quarter project turned in on time with good quality. My next goal is to work with the other 8th graders to make sure that the 8th Grade Slideshow done on time. My final goal is to get all of my blogs done by Saturday.
I want to get my 4th quarter in on time, and early if possible. I want to be able to have time to make it the best with revisions. I also want to make it good because my 4th quarters have never really been the best and I want to change that for my last year.
We are already a little behind on the 8th Grade Slideshow, but we should be able to finish it up on time. I think that we are able to do a great job on it.
As always, I have wanted to get my blogs done by Saturday instead of Sunday, but I still haven't gotten every one done by then. I have gotten more and more done in time though. This quarter I plan to get all of them done by Saturday.
I will try my best to complete all of my goals this quarter and to make this final one the best. Well, come back soon for some more. Bye!
I am in 8th grade in my school's Advanced Media class. I love this class and I have been having lots of fun in it. This past year we went to San Diego, where STN was held, and the year before it was in Orlando. This year it was in Atlanta, Georgia.
